Newton Shield Champions 2023
On a rainy evening on Friday 14th July 2023 Kilmacolm GC & Paisley GC teams met to contest the 2023 Newton Shield final at Ranfurly Castle GC. Both teams opted to play despite the worsening weather supported by an impressive number of hardy spectators. The course was presented in great condition and coped admirably with the wind and rain. Paisley took an early lead winning 3 of the first games and Kilmacolm mounted a fight back in the later games which resulted in both teams securing 8pts. A winner would now be decided in a sudden death playoff. At around 10pm, in very low light, the nominated players from each team teed off. Kilmacolm won the single playoff hole to retain the Newton Shield for 2023. Many congratulations to Kilmacolm on their deserved victory and commiserations to Paisley as worthy runners-up.
Junior Newton Shield Champions 2023
​On Sunday 25th of June 2023 junior members of Kilmacolm GC and Paisley GC met to contest the final of the Junior Newton Shield for 2023. After a tough match Kilmacolm GC emerged the winners by 8 pts to 4 pts. The games were played in a great spirit over Ranfurly Castle GC who provided a fantastic golf course and great hospitality to the teams. Keep an eye out for these talented young golfers over the next few years. Congratulations again to Kilmacolm on their deserved victory.
